Avignon TGV Station Transfer: Your Driver Meets You on the Platform
Avignon TGV station lies about 5 km outside the city centre. In summer, the taxi queue can be long, and the shuttle train only goes to Avignon Centre. Your Mistral VTC driver tracks your train and waits for you at the exit with your name sign.
Good to know: Avignon has two stations — Avignon TGV (high-speed trains, about 2h40 from Paris) and Avignon Centre (regional trains). Check your ticket; we pick up at both.
What happens when you arrive at Avignon TGV station?
Your driver is waiting at the station exit with your name on a sign, timed to your train's actual arrival. Here is how a typical private transfer works:
- When you book, tell us your train number or arrival time, the number of passengers and suitcases, and anything special: child seats, a pushchair, bikes, golf bags or a folding wheelchair.
- On the day, your driver tracks your TGV. If it runs late, the pick-up time moves with it, and waiting caused by the delay costs you nothing.
- When you step off the train, just follow the other passengers to the exit. Your driver greets you, takes the luggage and walks you to the car.
- The fare is fixed and agreed in advance. No meter, no surprises if traffic is heavy around the ring road or the city walls.
Travelling with young children? Give us their ages and the right seat will be fitted before you arrive.
How long is the drive from Avignon TGV to Gordes and the Luberon?
Gordes and Roussillon are about 45 minutes from Avignon TGV station, and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue about 30 minutes. Approximate drive times outside rush hour:
- Avignon old town (inside the walls): about 15 minutes.
- Villeneuve-lès-Avignon: about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Châteauneuf-du-Pape: about 30 minutes.
- Saint-Rémy-de-Provence: about 30 minutes.
- L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue: about 30 minutes.
- Gordes, Roussillon: about 45 minutes.
- Ménerbes, Bonnieux, Lourmarin: 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the village.
In summer, the Luberon's narrow roads get busy, especially on market days. Your driver knows the routes that skirt the crowded village centres. Fares for each destination are listed on our prices page.
Is a private driver better than a taxi or the shuttle train?
For most holiday arrivals, yes. The shuttle train only runs to Avignon Centre, and the taxi rank can be long in July and August. A pre-booked chauffeur suits:
Families and groups
Several suitcases, a pushchair and tired children make queues and connections hard work. Our 7-seat van takes up to seven passengers with bulky luggage, in one trip.
Villa and farmhouse rentals
Many Provence holiday homes sit down unmarked country lanes. Send us the exact address and your host's directions, and your driver will take you to the door.
Business travellers
Heading to a meeting in Avignon, Carpentras or the Courtine business district? You can work on the way, and an hourly hire lets you keep the same driver for several appointments.
Cyclists and golfers
Bikes and golf bags fit in the van depending on volume. Mention them when booking so the right vehicle is sent.
Turn your arrival into a first afternoon in Provence
If your TGV gets in around midday, consider a half-day booking instead of a straight transfer. Your driver collects you at the station, stops at Gordes or the ochre village of Roussillon, or at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, waits while you explore, then drops you at your hotel or villa. Your luggage stays safely in the vehicle the whole time.
One more practical point: if your ticket says "Avignon Centre" rather than "Avignon TGV", we also meet trains at Avignon Centre station, opposite the city walls. For your return journey, your driver collects you from your accommodation with a comfortable margin before your train leaves.
Send us your train time and destination address, and you will quickly receive a fixed price for your private transfer.
