Nîmes Centre or Nîmes Pont-du-Gard: where will my driver be?
At whichever station is on your ticket, at the exit, holding a sign with your name. The two stations are very different places to arrive:
- Nîmes Centre is in town, a few minutes' walk from the Roman arena and the Maison Carrée. Handy if you are staying in the city, less so if you are heading out into the Gard countryside or on to Provence.
- Nîmes Pont-du-Gard, in Manduel, is a newer high-speed station built outside the city among farmland. There is no neighbourhood around it, so without a pre-booked car, onward travel takes some planning.
At either station, your driver tracks your train, adjusts if it is delayed and handles the luggage. The fare is fixed and confirmed before you book.
How long is the drive from Nîmes station to Uzès?
Uzès is about 35 minutes by car from Nîmes, and Arles about 30 minutes. Approximate drive times from the Nîmes stations, outside rush hour:
- Nîmes-Garons Airport: about 20 minutes.
- Pont du Gard: about 30 minutes.
- Arles: about 30 minutes.
- Uzès: about 35 minutes.
- Avignon: about 40 minutes.
Times vary with the station and the hour. Your driver adjusts the route, especially at busy times getting in and out of Nîmes.
What to see when you arrive via Nîmes
Nîmes is a good gateway for combining Roman heritage, the Provençal side of the Gard and the Camargue. A few ideas to go with your transfer:
The Pont du Gard
This UNESCO-listed Roman aqueduct is explored on foot from the banks of the Gardon river, and in summer families come to swim below the arches. Your driver can drop you there, wait while you visit, then take you on to your accommodation. See our Pont du Gard day trip.
Uzès
A ducal town of honey-coloured stone lanes, known for its Saturday morning market on Place aux Herbes. A peaceful base, with many farmhouse rentals nearby.
Arles and the Camargue
The Roman arena, the ancient theatre and Van Gogh connections in Arles, then the lagoons and pink flamingos of the Camargue a little further south.
The Alpilles
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Les Baux are reachable from Nîmes via Arles or Tarascon. See Les Baux and Saint-Rémy.
Who is a private driver from Nîmes for?
Families and groups renting a villa
Gard and Alpilles farmhouses are often remote. Our 7-seat van carries up to seven passengers with bulky luggage in one trip.
Travellers bound for Avignon
Your train arrives in Nîmes rather than Avignon? At about 40 minutes by road, a direct private transfer is a simple alternative to changing trains.
Cyclists
The Gard is great cycling country, especially around Uzès and the Pont du Gard. Bikes travel in the van depending on volume; mention them when booking.
