How does hiring a chauffeur by the hour work?
You book a driver and a car for a length of time rather than for a single journey. By the hour, for half a day or for a full day, your chauffeur follows your plans. They drop you off, wait nearby, then take you on to the next stop.
Before the day, we agree on:
- the pick-up time and address;
- the main stops you have in mind, even roughly;
- the number of passengers and the vehicle: Classic, sedan, Classic Premium or 7-seat van;
- the time you would like to finish.
The plan stays flexible. If a meeting runs over or you want to add a village, your driver adapts within the time booked. You get a fixed price in advance, per vehicle.
Half day or full day: which should I book?
A half day (4 hours) is enough for a morning market and lunch in a nearby village, or for a series of meetings in town. A full day (8 hours) lets you link three or four stops across Provence without watching the clock. Hourly hire suits shorter needs: a dinner out, an evening event or a return trip with waiting time.
A few sample days:
- Market morning: L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue on a Sunday, when the antique dealers are out, then lunch at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.
- Alpilles day: the Wednesday market in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, then Les Baux-de-Provence in the afternoon.
- Ventoux and Dentelles day: Vaison-la-Romaine on Tuesday morning for the market, then the wine villages of Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise.

Who is hourly chauffeur hire for?
- Business travellers with several meetings in Avignon, Aix-en-Provence or around Cavaillon, who don't want to hunt for parking in between.
- Property buyers viewing several houses in one day, often spread between the Luberon and the Alpilles, down lanes that are hard to find.
- Wine lovers visiting several estates: nobody has to drive after tastings, and the cases you buy travel in the boot.
- Golfers who want to play a round, then head to lunch or back to their hotel.
- Families and groups who would rather share one vehicle, such as the 7-seat van, than rent two cars.
- Anyone who would rather not drive on narrow hilltop-village roads in the middle of summer.
What does the driver actually do during the day?
Your chauffeur does more than drive. They know the local roads and choose routes according to the time of day and the season. They drop you as close as possible to village entrances and sites, which is where parking is hardest in summer. Your shopping and belongings stay safely in the car while you explore. If a site is too busy when you planned to arrive, they can suggest switching the order of stops.
In high season, from June to September, villages such as Gordes and Roussillon fill up quickly around midday. Starting early and keeping indoor visits for the afternoon makes for a more comfortable day.
Is a private driver better than a rental car in Provence?
For many visitors, yes. You avoid narrow streets, paid car parks that fill up by mid-morning, and the question of who drives after a wine tasting. A rental car still makes sense for a long stay with lots of independent driving. Many guests combine both: a rental car for most of the week, and a chauffeur for a wine day or an evening out.
